UMW's J.D. Nozemack Named CAC Men's Lax Offensive Player of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2020 men's lacrosse season. Mary Washington sophomore attacker J.D. Nozemack earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while York sophomore goalkeeper Jack Michael claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: J.D. Nozemack - Mary Washington

Sophomore attacker J.D. Nozemack led Mary Washington in its 15-14 victory over Shenandoah on Saturday with seven points on five goals and two assists. Nozemack also recorded six shots on goal, five ground balls and one caused turnover

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jack Michael - York (Pa.)

York sophomore goalkeeper Jack Michael had another strong road start for the seventh-ranked Spartans as he led the Green and White to an 11-3 road win at Eastern on Saturday in St. David's, PA. Michael recorded 10 saves in the win while he allowed just three goals to the Eagles. Michael made two saves in each the first and second quarters and followed that with three saves in both the third and fourth quarters. Michael shut the Eagles out in the second quarter as the Spartans took a 7-1 lead to the break. He collected three ground balls and had a caused turnover in the win. For the season, Michael is 2-0 with a 6.0 goals against average and a .636% save percentage. He also has four ground balls and one caused turnover for the campaign.

LEAGUE NOTES

Christopher Newport junior attacker Dylan Rice joined an exclusive list of Captains during the season opener on Saturday at Washington (Md.). In a 15-6 victory over the Shoremen, the junior All-American became just the sixth player in program history to register at least three points, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers in a single contest. During the game, he collected the go-ahead goal that broke a 3-3 deadlock just before halftime before adding another strike and an assist in the third quarter on the way to the lopsided victory. Meanwhile, on the defensive side, he collected a career-high four caused turnovers while chipping in with three total ground balls...Scott McAneney opened his senior campaign with 12 saves during a 15-6 victory over Washington (Md.) on Saturday. After the Shoremen slipped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, McAneney made four straight stops during a scoreless second period that saw the Captains flip a three-goal deficit into a two-goal lead, which they would never relinquish. Overall, he made nine stops in the first half and added three more in the second before exiting with a comfortable lead. The reigning All-American also contributed two ground balls during a well-rounded performance....York freshman Will Harnick led the Spartans to an 11-3 win on Saturday at Eastern University in St. David's, PA. Harnick tallied a career-high six points on three goals and three assists in the victory. Harnick opened his day with York's second goal of the day just 3:58 into the game. He then assisted on York's fourth, seventh and ninth goals and closed out his scoring with a pair of goals early in the fourth quarter. For the season, Harnick leads the Spartans in points with eight while he is tied for the team lead in assists with four. He is tied for second on the team in goals. He has put seven of his nine total shots...St. Mary's junior midfielder Dominic Venanzi led the Seahawks on the offensive end with two goals and three assists for a total of five points in a 15-8 loss to Dickinson...In his first season with Southern Virginia, Hampshire has impressed at goal starting his first game off with an impressive 23 save game in a 17-13 Southern Virginia victory over Catholic. He then followed with a 17 save game in a heartbreaking 8-6 loss at Ohio Northern, posting a 68 percent save percentage. The Knights regrouped behind its goalie against Capital the next day, earning the 15-11 win with Hampshire collecting 13 saves. On the week Hampshire went 2-1 while totaling 53 saves and a 62.4 save percentage.
