The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to ninth-ranked Salisbury University, 20-10, on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles slip to 7-7 overall, and 3-3 in the CAC. 

UMW jumped out to a 2-0 start, in part to great defense that led to offense. Shane McKenzie scored the first goal of the game with 10:09 to play, and then McKenzie scored on an assist from Robert Tata with 9:07 left. From there Salisbury scored four straight goals, one at the buzzer, to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Conor Healy grabbed the first goal to bring the Eagles within one, 4-3, with 12:11 left. The Seagulls then scored four goals unanswered in a span of 8:36 to take an 8-3 lead. The Eagles grabbed the last goal of the second quarter as Chris White scored on an assist from Cole Hogan with 1:06 remaining.

Owen Dingman scored just 1:28 into the game to bring the Eagles within three, 8-5. Salisbury answered right back and scored with 11:34 to play and put the Seagulls back up four. Dingman scored his second of the game on an assist from Chase Kapuscienski to put the game at 9-6. Over the last 11:03, Salisbury scored five goals and took a 14-6 lead into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, the Seagulls scored five more goals to take a 19-6 lead with 7:06 left. Will Mortimer scored on an assist from McKenzie with 6:53 left. 22 seconds later, Will Hackett scored his first career goal to cut the lead to 19-8. Salisbury added another goal with 5:03 to play. Mortimer added his second goal of the day on an assist from Evan Kerkhoff and then Vinny Smiroldo scored on an assist from Alex Olson with one second left to put the game at 20-10.

Bobby Leytham recorded three ground balls and one caused turnover on the day. Billy Senicola made 15 saves, while Lucas Whittie and Sam Wasson combined to make three saves for the Eagles.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to Marymount at 4 p.m.
