#13 Eagles Sink Captains, 13-4, in CAC Tournament First Round

Fredericksburg, Va.-- The #13 University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team defeated Christopher Newport, 13-4, in the First Round of the CAC Tournament. UMW was led by John Bohlinger's five goal performance, with Luke Dick chipping in two goals and six assists. The Eagles move to 14-2 on the year, recording the most wins in program history.

Bohlinger got the scoring started just three minutes into the game off a Dick assist. Griffin Burke followed suit late into the quarter, scoring with five minutes remaining. Greg Smith capped a three goal quarter for the Eagles, scoring just a minute later. Luke Dick registered all three assists in the opening quarter.

The Eagles got up 7-0 at the half, thanks in part to four goals in the second quarter. Joey Marson got his first tally of the contest at the 13 minute mark unassisted, and was followed just minutes later by Mike Marson to give UMW a 5-0 lead. Bohlinger capped the 7-0 run with his second and third goals of the game just before the half.

CNU came out firing in the third, scoring on the opening possession of the second half. Adam Abbate got the Captains on the board just 53 seconds in. Joey Marson and Bohlinger had the answer for the Abbate goal, scoring back to back to increase the lead to 9-1. Following a Brooks Billings goal, Luke Dick got a goal of his own, ending the quarter for the Eagles up 10-2.

Mack Cary led off the final stanza with a tally to give UMW an 11-2 lead. CNU would score twice in the fourth, but UMW got goals from Dick and Bohlinger late to seal the 13-4 win.

The Eagle defense stood tall for the Eagles, forcing 24 CNU turnovers. Zack DelGrosso made nine saves, only allowing four goal between the pipes. Luke Dick led the way with eight points for the Eagles.

UMW returns to action in the CAC Semifinals at York (Pa.) on Saturday. Start time is yet to be determined.
