#14 Eagles Fly Past St. Mary's (Md.), 13-8, on Wednesday

St. Mary's, Md.-- The #14 University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team picked up their first CAC win of the year, with a 13-8 win against the Seahawks on Wednesday. UMW was led by Joey Marson who recorded a hat trick in the win. The Eagles move to 8-2, 1-2 CAC on the year.

Chip Pittard got the scoring started just two minutes in off an assist from Luke Dick. St. Mary's would answer just moments later, tying the game up at 1-1. Pittard struck again midway through the quarter, off another feed from Dick. John Bohlinger would add the third goal of the quarter on a man up opportunity. Bohlinger gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead after one, off the Pittard assist. 

Greg Smith got into the act to open the second stanza, with a tally of his own 1:19 in. The Seahawks struck back, scoring two goals back to back, to pull even with UMW. However the Eagles would end the quarter with a three goal flurry. Jack Carver started the run with a goal from Luke Dick. Dick would then record his first of the game with 2:22 remaining. Joey Marson capped the quarter off a Smith pass with 28 seconds to go, giving UMW a 7-4 lead at the break.

Marson got another tally to open the second half from Luke Dick. Following a St. Mary's goal, UMW answered with two of their own. Mack Cary and Greg Smith went back to back to push the Eagle lead to 10-5. 

The fourth quarter was all Eagles, as UMW outscored the Seahawks 3-1 to earn the 13-8 win. Marson, Johnny Esposito and John Bohlinger recorded the goals for Mary Washington.

Zack DelGrosso made 15 saves on 23 shots for the Eagles between the pipes. Marson paced the Eagles with three goals, while Bohlinger, Smith and Pittard each scored two. UMW outshot St. Mary's 43-36, while converting all 18 of their clear attempts.

UMW returns to the field this Saturday, April 5th. The #14 Eagles host La Roche at 1:00 p.m.
