The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team overcame a two-goal third quarter deficit in defeating York College, 11-10, on Wednesday in the regular season finale. The Eagles improve to 10-4 overall, and will host the Spartans on Sunday in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Spartans jumped ahead early, taking a 2-0 lead in the opening five minutes. The Eagles tied the score at two with goals from Joey Marson with 4:08 remaining and John Bohlinger on a Luke Dick assist one minute later. In the second quarter, Marson fed Bohlinger for his second score of the day, giving the Eagles a 3-2 advantage.

Bohlinger's goal ignited a scoring frenzy, as York answered 15 seconds later to tie the score at three and again one minute later to regain the lead at 4-3. Junior Sean Dacey tied the score for UMW with 10:49 left in the half, but York regained the lead one minute later at 5-4.

The two teams alternated goals for the next four minutes, with Harry Snyder and Billy Kelly posting goals for UMW, and York led, 7-6, at halftime. York started the second half by expanding the lead to 8-6 with 11 minutes left in the quarter. From there, the Eagle defense tightened, allowing just two more goals the rest of the game while scoring five times.

Kelly started the streak by scoring his second goal of the game, followed by the tying score from Dacey with 2:48 left in the third. After a Spartan goal, Dacey scored to again tie the game at nine with 1:59 in the period. York scored in the final minute of the third to take a 10-9 lead into the final 15 minutes, but the Eagles blanked the Spartans, 2-0, in the fourth, with goals from Marson with 13:54 left and Dick with 10:40 to go.

York led in shots, 32-26, and won 18 of 24 faceoffs. The Eagles got nine saves from senior goalie Matt Prin in the victory. The two teams will meet again on Sunday in the first round of the CAC Tournament at the Battleground. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
