UMW Men's Basketball Falls to Alvernia, 70-56, in Daytona



The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team shot just 21-67 (31%) from the floor in a 70-56 loss to Alvernia University on Thursday night at Embry-Riddle University in Daytona, Fla. The Eagles fall to 8-3 on the season.

The Eagles' shooting woes extended beyond the three-point arc, as UMW made just 6-28 long-range attempts. Alvernia shot better than 50% (26-51) and led throughout. The Eagles trailed by 15 at halftime, and trailed by as many as 21 in the second half. UMW made a run to cut the deficit to nine but could get no closer.

Mary Washington was led by sophomore guard E.J. Willis' 10 points, while guards Bradley Riester and Ryan Farrar each added nine. Sean Armstrong had five rebounds to pace the Eagles, while Tad Dickman had three steals.

The Eagles will face Embry-Riddle on Friday at 6 p.m.
