Eagles Hold On to Defeat Frostburg State 65-57

The University of Mary Washington jumped out to a 34-19 halftime lead and held on late to defeat Frostburg State University, 65-57, in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the William M. Anderson Center. Sophomore E.J. Willis (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) came off the bench to lead the Eagles with 16 points, including an emphatic dunk to slam the door shut on the visiting Bobcats in the final minute of action. Frostburg State pulled within four at 59-55 on a three-pointer by Ladi Odunlami with just 40 seconds to play before sophomore guard Walt Smith (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) found a streaking Willis for the final punctuation mark.

Smith poured in 12 points for the Eagles to go along with seven assists as he constantly found a way to break down the Bobcats defense to either get easy layups or find his teammates for open shots. Senior guard Henry Brisibe (South Riding, Va., Freedom) led the Eagles on the boards with 12 rebounds (5 offensive) to go along with his nine points.  The win was the sixth in a row for the Eagles, who are now 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in the CAC.

Forward DeSean Antoine led the Bobcats with 12 points, while forward Bradley Nunn and guard Troy Dockett added 10 a piece. The Bobcats were outrebounded by Mary Wahington 47-35 and the Eagles bench outscored the Bobcats' 25-10.

The Eagles will be in action again Tuesday as they travel to Newport News to face The Apprentice School at 7 P.M. The Eagles defeated The Apprentice School 82-74 in their second game of the season November 19th.
