The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision at eighth-ranked Kean University on Tuesday night in Union, N.J. The Eagles slip to 4-8 on the season.
The host Cougars scored a pair of goals in the opening quarter, and added another to open the second, before the Eagles reached the scoreboard on a goal from freshman Maddie Legum, on an assist from classmate Monique Lipton. UMW trailed, 3-1, at halftime.
The Eagles were able to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the third, as junior Emma Bernard added to her team leading total at 34:49, on an assist from Sydney Keating. The Cougars responded with the final two goals of the game for the 5-2 victory.
Kean led in shots, 27-19, as well as penalty corners, 17-14. UMW goalkeeper Bailey McNabb made 13 saves in the contest.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit third ranked Salisbury University at 1:00 p.m.
