UMW Field Hockey Falls to Bryn Mawr, 3-1, on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to Bryn Mawr College on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 3-2 on the season.

After a scoreless first quarter, UMW grabbed the lead on a score from sophomore Ellie Helbling (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend), on an assist from junior Emma Bernard (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor), at 26:11. The Eagles held the 1-0 advantage to halftime.

Bryn Mawr knotted the score early in the third quarter, and found the eventual game winner at 48:49, adding a late insurance tally in the final minutes.

Each team had 15 shots on the day, and Bryn Mawr held a 12-10 edge in penalty corners. UMW junior goalie Bailey McNabb made three saves on the day, and the Eagle defense pushed away several shots in the crease with blocks as well.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit St. Mary's College (Md.) at 6:00 p.m.
