Hopkins, Smith, and Dixson Named to VaSID All-State Field Hockey Team

FERRUM, Va. – University of Lynchburg's Jackie Lerro and Enza Steele earned Player and Coach of the Year honors, respectively, on the 2019 College Division Field Hockey All-State Team, as named by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Christopher Newport University's Abby Asuncion was named Rookie of the Year.

Lerro was a second-team National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American this season after earning Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, first team All-Region, first team All-ODAC and ODAC All-Tournament Team. She was the Hornets' leading scorer with 55 points on 21 goals and 13 assists, notching four game-winners.

Steele guided Lynchburg to its 20th ODAC championship and 21st NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in her 41st year at the helm of the program. She won her 600th career game along the way, and will be inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame in January 2020.

Asuncion earned first team All-Region, one of only six freshmen in the nation to do so. She was the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and made the All-CAC first team. Asuncion was also a Synapse Sports National All-Rookie Team selection after posting 29 points this season on 14 goals and an assist, including seven game-winning goals.

Joining Lerro and Asunction on the All-State first team were Shenandoah University's Taylor Hayes, Kelsey Jones and Isabella Morande, CNU's Bailey Miller and Rachel Cooke, Randolph-Macon College's Claire Magill and Teresita Ambrogi-Torres, University of Mary Washington's Lauren Hopkins and Lynchburg's Alexis Brown.
