UMW Baseball Edges Mary Baldwin, 8-7, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team defeated Mary Baldwin University, 8-7, on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 15-13 on the season.

After the Fighting Squirrels scored two in the first, UMW answered with six in their half of the inning. Jonathan Sedmak provided an RBI double, before Ty Lowe added an RBI single. Tim Blankenship followed with a grand slam to give the Eagles a four-run cushion.

The Squirrels added one in the seventh, before the Eagles countered with two, as Jacob Christenbury provided a two-run single. The Squirrels scored four in the ninth before the Eagles gained the final out.

Xavier Herring had three hits and Blankenship added the grand slam and a single for UMW. Christenbury singled and doubled.

Ryan Dudak pitched three innings with no earned runs in relief for the win.

The Eagles will take on Salisbury University on Saturday in Salisbury with a noon doubleheader.
