UMW Baseball Falls to #4 Salisbury, 12-1, on Saturday Afternoon

Fourth-ranked Salisbury University posted back-to-back three-run innings to break open a scoreless game, as host University of Mary Washington dropped a 12-1 decision to the Sea Gulls in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles slip to 8-15 on the season, and 6-9 in league play.

Both teams were held off the board in the first two innings, as both starting pitchers started strong. In the third, SU used a hit and an error to score three runs, and added three more in the fourth on a pair of hits. The Gulls were aided by a pair of walks, a pair of hit by pitches, and a wild pitch strikeout.

After Salisbury added another in the sixth, the Eagles scored in the seventh. Ty Lowe led off with a single and David Lambertson followed with a walk. After a wild pitch moved the runners along, Alex Purgason provided an RBI single. The Sea Gulls scored five in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Lambertson led the Eagles with two singles and a walk. Zach Adams took the loss, allowing three earned runs in 3.1 innings, with two walks and a strikeout. Senior Chris LeVere pitched a spotless ninth, with a strikeout.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host Southern Virginia University at 3:00 p.m.
