UMW Baseball Falls to #4 Salisbury, 7-2, on Friday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision to fourth-ranked Salisbury University on Friday afternoon in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action at Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles slip to 8-14 overall, and 6-8 in league play.

The Eagles posted two runs in the second inning to take the early lead. Senior right fielder David Lambertson and sophomore first baseman Nick Ciuffreda both singled, and an error allowed Lambertson to score. Ciuffreda followed behind on a wild pitch.

Salisbury was held off the scoreboard for four innings by a quality performance from starter Ty Lowe, but the Sea Gulls scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and once more in the seventh to grab the lead, and added three in the eighth to pull away.

Lowe allowed one run on two hits in five innings, walking three and striking out two. Senior Daniel Osafo took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in relief. Freshman Caleb Thornhill pitched 1.2 innings of two-hit scoreless relief.

Senior Garrett Lyons led the Eagles with a single and double. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at noon at Dickinson Stadium.
