UMW Baseball Drops Saturday Twinbill at Christopher Newport

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a pair of Coast 2 Coast AThletic Conference games at Christopher Newport University on Saturday afternoon, falling 8-2 in the opener and 20-3 in game two. The Eagles slip to 3-10 on the season, and 2-5 in league play.

In the first game, CNU scored first with three runs in the second inning. UMW got on the board on a Garrett Lyons home run in the top of the fourth, before the Captains scored one in the fifth, two in the seventh, and two in the eighth. UMW's other run came in the eighth, as Lyons walked, moved to second on a Ty Lowe single, and scored on a wild pitch.

Lyons' homer was the Eagles' top hit, and Caleb McAlister added a double. Daniel Osafo took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings, with one walk and one strikeout.

In game two, the Captains used big innings in the second, fifth, and sixth to take a 20-3 win. UMW scored in the fourth when McAlister scored on a Lowe single. UMW scored another in the sixth, as Lyons scored on an Owen Reilly sacrifice fly. UMW added another in the eighth inning, as Bobby Ayscue scored on a wild pitch.

David Lambertson had two hits for the Eagles, while Ayscue doubled. Zach Adams took the loss for UMW, allowing four earned runs on five hits in 4.1 innings, with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Eagles will host CNU on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
