UMW Baseball Drops Saturday Doubleheader at #4 Salisbury

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a pair of games at fourth-ranked Salisbury University on Saturday in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fell in the opener, 13-3, and in game two, 9-5.

In game one, the Eagles jumped ahead with a run in the second, as senior David Lambertson singled, stole second, and scored on a double from freshman Ty Lowe. The Sea Gulls took the lead with three in the third, and added five in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three in the seventh. The Eagles scored a pair in the ninth, as Noah Roots doubled and advanced to third on a single by sophomore Canon Davies. Xavier Herring lined a sacrifice fly to score Roots, and pinch runner Bobby Ayscue scored on an error.

Lambertson led the Eagles with three hits, while Lowe added two. Jonathan Sedmak doubled. Sophomore Zach Adams took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 4.2 innings on five hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.

Game two saw the Sea Gulls build a 4-0 lead with one run in the first, the second, and two in the third. The Eagles plated a run in the sixth inning, as Caleb McAlister scored on a Sedmak single. Salisbury scored five in the seventh to build a 9-1 advantage, but the Eagles answered with three runs in the eighth. Sedmak provided a bases-loaded single to score Owen Reilly, and Norman Holcomb followed with a two-run single. Salisbury added one in the eighth, before UMW used a Luke Guerzon sacrifice fly to plate one in the ninth.

Sedmak, Reilly, and McAlister each had two hits for the Eagles, with Sedmak adding two RBI. McAlister scored a pair of runs. Freshman Brendan McComber absorbed the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in six innings, with four walks and two strikeouts.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 3:30 p.m.
