UMW Baseball Drops C2C Opener to Christopher Newport, 13-3

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 13-3 decision to visiting Christopher Newport University at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium in Coast 2 Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 1-6 on the season.

The Captains scored a pair of early runs in the first two innings, but the Eagles knotted the game with a pair of runs in the fourth. Three straight singles from Ty Lowe, David Lambertson, and Canon Davies produced the Eagles' first run, and after a lineout, Caleb McAllister followed with an RBI single.

CNU broke the game open with an eight-run fifth inning, and added one in the sixth and two in the seventh. UMW added a run in the eighth, as Jonathan Sedmak led off with a single, and moved to second on a hit from Garrett Lyons. Lowe then reached on an error to plate Sedmak.

Sedmak and Lambertson led the Eagles with two hits apiece, and Nick Bass added a double. Sophomore Zach Adams took the loss, allowing three earned runs in four innings on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Ryan Dudak pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

The Eagles and Captains will conclude their weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Dickinson Stadium.
