Rubano's Four Hits Lead UMW Baseball Past Alfred St., 6-2

Sophomore outfielder Chris Rubano collected two singles, a double, and a home run in leading the University of Mary Washington baseball team to a 6-2 victory over Alfred State College on Sunday in Lexington, S.C. The Eagles improve to 4-7 on the season.

Rubano led off the game for the Eagles with a solo home run, and Norman Holcomb followed with an RBI single later in the inning to up the lead to 2-0. Alfred State scored once in the fifth, but UMW answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Garrett Lyons plated Noah Angstadt with a sacrifice fly, and a Holcomb and Christian Hague followed with RBI singles.

Alfred scored another in the sixth, but the Eagles again responded in the bottom of the inning, as Rubano provided an RBI double.

Rubano drove in two runs and scored a pair, while Holcomb had two singles, a double, and two RBI. Hague singled and doubled. 

Senior Cole Gabriele gained the win, allowing one earned run on nine hits in seven innings, walking four and striking out four. Noah Adcock-Howeth picked up his second save, allowing one hit and one walk in two innings, with three strikeouts.

The Eagles will play a three-game series againt John Carroll University starting Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
