UMW Baseball Falls to CNU, 11-4, in CAC Tourney Pod Final

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped an 11-4 decision at Christopher Newport University on Saturday in Newport News, Va. in the final of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament opening weekend.

The Captains jumped ahead with a run in the first, two in the second, and one in the third, but the Eagles plated two in the third and two in the fourth to knot the score. In the third, the Eagles gained consecutive singles from Tyler Ray, Christian Hague, Kevin France, and Garrett Lyons to net one run, and an RBI single from David Lambertson added another.

In the fourth, the Eagles plated two runs as Ray and Hague connected for back-to-back home runs. The Captains scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, and scored three times in the seventh and eighth to pull away.

The Eagles outhit the Captains, 15-11, with Hague leading the way with a 4-5 with a home run, while Lyons had three hits and Ray, Lambertson, and France each adding two. 

Senior Marcel Barrett took the loss, allowing seven earned runs in seven-plus innings, on eight hits, striking out seven.
