UMW Baseball Falls to #1 CNU, 10-1, on Friday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team fell to first-ranked Christopher Newport University, 10-1, on Friday afternoon in Newport News, VA. The Eagles slip to 6-10 overall, and 1-5 in CAC play.

The Eagles began the game with scoring a run in the first as Garrett Lyons reached on an error. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then Stephen Johnston walked. David Lambertson brought home the lone run for the Eagles as he singled through the right side to bring home Lyons. From there, UMW struggled to collect hits as they had just two others throughout the game.

CNU added two runs in the bottom of the first and another in the second to go up 3-1. In the fourth, they scored another and in the sixth they scored two more to take a 6-1 advantage. The Captains scored the rest of their runs in the seventh inning.

Tyler Ray threw 6.0 innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out nine batters. Christian Hague and Marcel Barrett both collected a hit a piece.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they will play #1 CNU at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
