UMW Baseball Falls at St. Mary's, 15-6, on Thursday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 15-6 decision at St. Mary's College on Thursday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action in St. Mary's City, Md. The Eagles slip to 15-9-1 overall, and 4-3 in league action.

The Eagles started the scoring with a sacrifice fly from sophomore Christian Hague in the first inning, but the Seahawks responded with two in the first and three in the second to take a 5-1 lead into the third. Hague's two-run triple in the third cut the deficit to 5-3, but St. Mary's extended its lead in the bottom of the frame with six runs.

Senior Mark Smith's home run trimmed the deficit to 11-4 in the fourth, and Hague connected for a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the score to 12-6. The Eagles were able to load the bases in the sixth, but were unable to come any closer.

Hague led the offense with a triple, home run, and five RBI, while Smith doubled and homered. Garrett Lyons and Ramsis Ruiz each had a pair of hits as well. Sophomore Mason Riser took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 earned runs on 13 hits in three inningswith one walk and four strikeouts.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday when they host Penn State-Harrisburg for a noon CAC doubleheader.
