UMW Baseball Falls to #25 Shenandoah, 10-7

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 10-7 decision at #25 Shenandoah University on Sunday afternoon in Winchester, Va. The Eagles fall to 20-16 on the season.

UMW jumped ahead with a run in the first, as Seth Jordan reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch. The Hornets scored once in the second and once in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, but the Eagles tied the score in the fifth, as Conner Lilley singled and scored on a Jordan double.

Shenandoah scored four in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh, but the Eagles plated five runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to three. Alex Bryant was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a single by Kevin Stein, and Lilley followed with a single to score Bryant. T.J. Cretney hit a three-run homer to move the score to 9-6, and Jordan singled and scored on a Brendan Jones single to move the score to 9-7.

Cretney led the Eagles with a single and home run with three RBI, while Jordan and Jones singled and doubled, and Lilley had two hits.

Junior Ben Sisk took the loss, allowing six runs in 4.1 innings on nine hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Mary Washington will host fifth-seeded York College of Pa. in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday at Dickinson Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
