UMW Baseball Drops CAC Douleheader at York, 5-0 and 4-3

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped both ends of a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader at York College on Saturday, falling 5-0 in the opener and 4-3 in game two. The Eagles fall to 17-13 overall, and 7-4 in CAC play.

The Eagles were blanked in the opener, as York scored one in the third, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth. The Eagles managed four hits, as Jono Haught, T.J. Cretney, James Sink, and Kevin Stein all singled. Senior Mike Straub took the loss, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits in six innings with two walks and four strikeouts.

In game two, the Spartans scored four in the first and held on for a 4-3 win. The Eagles scored one in the second as Haught hit a solo home run, and added two in the sixth, as Seth Jordan singled and scored on a Cretney hit, and Stein walked with the bases loaded. Haught doubled in the seventh, but was stranded at second base.

Haught led the Eagles with a double and home run, while Jordan, Cam Kostyack, and Sink each had two hits. Freshman Bernard Mayflower took the loss for the Eagles, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings, with two walks and two strikeouts.

The two teams will close their series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
