The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped an 8-7 decision at eighth-ranked Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon in Newport News, Va. The Eagles fall to 14-9 on the season.

It was the Eagles who stormed ahead early, running their lead to 7-1 into the sixth inning. UMW scored once in the first on a Seth Jordan RBI double, and added another in the third as Jordan, Jono Haught, and Cam Kostyack connected for consecutive singles.

The Eagles extended the lead to 6-1 in the fifth as Kostyack knocked in Jordan on a fielding error, and Kevin Stein, Alex Bryant, and James Sink each singled to plate runs. The Captains chipped away with a run in the sixth to trim the deficit to 7-2, and then led off the seventh inning with seven straight batters reaching base to grab the lead at 8-7.

The Eagles outhit the Captains, 13-12, while CNU won despite committing four errors. Jordan led the Eagles, going 4-5 with two singles, two doubles, scoring two runs, and driving in two more. Sink went 3-4 with a double and an RBI, and Kevin Stein went 2-4 as well.
