Brett Longobucco begins his second year as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at the University of Mary Washington.

"We look forward to having Brett Longobucco join our team as the new Director of Strength and Conditioning for UMW Athletics" said Interim Director of Athletics Patrick Catullo. "With his experience as a strength and conditioning coach and his background in Division III athletics, Brett will be a great addition to our department."

Longobucco comes to UMW from Castleton State University in Castleton, Vermont, where he served two years as strength and conditioning coach. While there, he designed, implemented and monitored scientifically sound strength and conditioning programs specific to men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, nordic skiing, track and field, cross country and rugby. He tracked and evaluated individual and team progress and performance, developed sport-specific weight training and Olympic lifts, and demonstrated and monitored safe lifting techniques. He supervised strength and conditioning graduate assistants and interns, providing leadership and instruction.

"It was immediately evident by the passionate athletic staff and top of the line facilities that this is an institution that really puts an emphasis on the student athlete experience. It is an environment that fosters growth both in and out of the sports setting, and I am grateful to be fortunate enough to play a role within that. I really look forward to arriving on campus and working with the student athletes, coaches, and sports medicine staff to continue to emerge University of Mary Washington as one of the premier athletic departments and institutions in the region."

Prior to his time at Castleton State, he served a s a strength and conditioning coach at the University of Miami (Fla.) as a graduate assistant coach. He worked closely with the strength and conditioning department to help design, implement and monitor a sound program for intercollegiate teams, including the nationally ranked Division I men's and women's basketball teams, women's soccer team, tennis team, crew team and swim team. He implemented and led in-season training regimens for athletes, including strength maintenance, game fitness and injury rehab/prevention work, and developed and implemented sport-specific weight training and Olympic lifts, tracking and evaluating individual and team progress and performance.

He also has experience as head strength and conditioning coach for SVM Fusion Soccer Club, director and owner of Next Level Athlete, a private strength and conditioning group, as well as head strength and conditioning coach for Miami Strike Force Premiere Soccer Club.

He began his career as an intern at Harvard University as a strength and conditioning intern.
