#15 UMW Men’s Tennis Tops SVU, 5-1, in CAC Semifinals

The fifteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team topped Southern Virginia University, 5-1, in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Tuesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles advance to the CAC championship where they will look to win their 24th conference title. UMW improves to 21-4 overall.

In doubles action, Michael Fleming and Patrick Hughes put the Eagles up early, 1-0, as they won at three doubles 8-1. The Knights tied the game at 1-1 after winning 8-4 at one doubles. After being down 7-5 in two doubles, Derek Hagino and Ryland Byrd made a comeback to win 8-7 (7-2).

Cole Tecce gave UMW a 3-1 advantage as he won 6-1, 6-2 at six singles. Derek Hagino then won at five singles 6-4, 6-2 and Moses Hutchison clinched the match at three singles as he won 6-3, 6-2.

UMW will host CNU in the Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at a time TBA.
