The Ten for Ten Challenge is the Eagle Club's annual fundraising initiative for current student-athletes. So how does it work?

A $10 suggested donation will qualify current student-athletes for UMW’s Eagle Club. The Eagle Club, the fundraising arm of UMW Athletics has raised over 1.5 million dollars in gifts over the last four years for its mission to maximize opportunities and strengthen support services for Mary Washington student-athletes.

“Our student-athletes are leaders. They lead in competition, in their classrooms, and they lead by serving their communities,” said Philip Pierce, Director of Athletic Development. “The Ten for Ten Challenge is another example of how these young men and women are modeling leadership for all of us. They want to feel a sense of ownership and give back to their programs so those who come behind them can have the same outstanding collegiate experience they had.”

The challenge begins this year on October 1st and will end on October 10th. The primary goal is to teach current Eagles about the Eagle Club, and how donors continue to enhance the UMW student-athlete experience. The secondary goal is for every sport team to reach 100% participation by 10/10, and pay it forward for the next generation.

UMW men's basketball captain Jacob Williams '19 was one of the first student-athletes to step up to the challenge last year and will be featured in a Ten for Ten Feature this October! "Often my friends and I like to go to Chipotle for dinner, but I realized I could sacrifice a trip to Chipotle in order to give back to our team" Williams said, "With a program that supports me so heavily I figured it was only right that I give back when I can ."
