UMW Cross Country Competes at Christopher Newport Invite

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Christopher Newport Invitational in Newport News, Va., on Saturday. The women finished in third place among six schools, while the men finished second among five schools.

For the women, sophomore Kelly Young (Ruckersville, Va. / William Monroe) finished led the way for UMW, as she finished sixth in the 6K course at 24:56.90. Senior Teresa Guzman (Lorton, Va. / South County) took ninth place at 25:18.90, and teammate Cameron Delean (South Riding, Va. / Freedom) finished tenth at 25:27.80. Senior Kenzie Lloyd (Earlysville, Va. / Albemarle) finished 13th at 25:53.90, and junor Grace Pippin (Bristow, Va. / Patriot) rounded out the top five in 17th at 26:08.20.

On the men's side, junior Patrick Brown (Alexandria, Va. / Thomas Edison) finished fifth in the 8K race with a time of 27:05.80, while senior Matt O'Cadiz (Falls Church, Va. / JEB Stuart) took seventh at 27:23.20. Senior Justin Libman (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) finished 12th at 27:56.60. Junior Nick Onorato (Fairfax Station, Va. / South County) took 13th at 28:00.50, and senior Blake Mason finished 21st at 28:47.80 to round out the Eagles' top five.

The teams will compete next weekend at the Shenandoah Invitational at 8:30 a.m.
