UMW Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Capture First Place at Catholic Invitational

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams both captured the championship at the Catholic University Invitational on Saturday morning in Washington, D.C.

On the women's side, the Eagles took top honors with 33 points, followed by Catholic with 47, Moravian with 77, Juniata with 79, and Gallaudet with 155. UMW was led by junior Ashley Applegate, who finished in third place overall at 25:04. Freshman Grace Pippin was fifth at 25:19, and sophomore Camy Delean was sixth at 25:32. Sophomore Kenzie Lloyd was seventh at 25:39, and freshman Helen Dhue took 12th to round out the top five at 26:13.

The men took first place with 51 points, followed by Juniata with 64, Catholic 66, Moravian 75, Howard Community College 88, Gallaudet 199, and Goucher 208. Freshman Patrick Brown finished first overall with a time of 27:06, while sophomore Matthew O'Cadiz took sixth at 28:02. Sophomore Blake Mason finished 11th at 28:41, junior Miles Spence was 16th at 28:51, and junior Dillon Schweers took 17th at 28:56.

The Eagles will return to action on September 28 when they visit Winchester, Va. for the Shenandoah Invitational.
