UMW Men's Cross Country Takes Fourth at CAC Championship; Gibson Claims First Place Overall

Junior Jeff Gibson brought home medalist honors as the University of Mary Washington men's cross country team finished in fourth place at the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Championship in Buena Vista, Va., on Saturday.

Gibson, who became the first UMW runner to win the event since 2009 (Frank DeVar), crossed the line first overall at 26:06. Freshman Blake Mason finished 17th overall at 27:39, freshman Matt O'Cadiz took 27th at 28:21, senior J.P. Burklow was 32nd at 28:33, and sophomore Jake Phillips finished 33rd at 28:38.

York won the title with 49 points, edging Christopher Newport's 51. Southern Virginia was third at 96 points, followed by the Eagles with 99. Salisbury was fifth with 100, followed by Frostburg, St. Mary's, and Penn State Harrisburg.

The Eagles will be back in action in two weeks at the NCAA regional hosted by Berry College.
