UMW Men's, Women's Cross Country Finish First at UMW Invitational

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams both finished in first place ahead of Virginia State University and Virginia Union University on Saturday at Clift Farm in Stafford, Va.

The women brought home first place thanks to a 3-4-5-6-7 finish in the overall. Sophomore Leah Saling was third at 27:20, while senior Hailey Hopkins was fourth at 28:07. Junior Kristy White was fifth at 28:19, freshman Jasmine Villanueva was sixth at 28:21, and junior Hannah Huggins was seventh at 28:37.

UMW scored 25 points, followed by Virginia State with 52, and Virginia Union with 60.

On the men's side, senior Calhoun Stirling finished second overall at 28:42, followed by freshman Brandon Baumgartner in fourth at 29:54, freshman Chester Pruitt in fifth at 30:11, and freshman Justin Libman in sixth at 30:23. Sophomore Jonathan Caicedo was eighth at 31:07.

UMW finished first with 25 points, with Virginia State taking 48 and Virginia Union 52.

Both teams will be back in action on October 13 at the Rowan University Invitational in Glassboro, N.J.
