UMW Men's Cross Country Picked Fourth in CAC Preseason Coaches' Poll

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Coming off its third-straight Capital Athletic Conference title and the conference's highest-ever team placing at the NCAA National Championships, Christopher Newport was selected as the preseason favorite in the 2018 CAC Men's Cross Country Preseason Poll. The Captains received six first-place votes and 48 points to earn top billing in a vote among the conference head coaches. 

York secured second place in the voting with 42 points and the remaining two first-place nods. Salisbury ranked third with 37 points, followed by Mary Washington (33 points) and Southern Virginia (25) in fourth and fifth, respectively, 

Frostburg State took sixth in the poll with 18 points, followed by St. Mary's (14 points) and Penn State Harrisburg (7 points). 

The 2018 season begins on Friday, Aug. 31. The CAC Championships will be hosted by Southern Virginia in Buena Vista, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 27, with regionals and nationals set for Nov. 10 & Nov. 17, respectively.
