UMW Cross Country Competes at Hornet Harrier Invite: Men Place 6th, Women 10th

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Hornet Harrier Invitational on Saturday in Winchester, Va. The men finished in sixth place, while the women placed 10th.

The Eagle men saw junior Sterling Calhoun finish ninth overall at 20:21, with freshman Jeffrey Dunn finishing 24th at 20:54. Freshman Jonathan Caciedo placed 45th at 22:19, freshman Matthew Bapties took 54th at 22:54, and junior Danny Reed finished 57th at 23:03. UMW finished with 163 points, with Baldwin-Wallace winning the overall with 26 points.

On the women's side, freshman Lindsay Tyler finished 40th at 22:22, while senior Marin Bader took 44th at 23:05. Junior Brianna Dolecki took 47th at 23:20, sophomore Hailey Hopkins finished 58th at 24:04, and soph Briana Gralia finished 87th at 25:58.

Prior to the 6K and 8K races, UMW's men and women had several runners run a two-mile race, and the Eagles finished 1-2-3-4-5-6 among collegiate runners. Sophomore John Gillum finished first at 11:32, freshman Bryan Vega took second at 11:40, freshman Laurence Sneed finished third at 11:48, and freshman Andrew South finished fourth at 12:09. Freshman Chris Hill was fifth at 13:51, and sophomore Ava Robb-McCord led all collegiate women in the race with a time of 14:42.

Both teams will be back in action on September 30 at Dickinson College with races starting at 10:00 a.m.
