UMW Men's and Women's Cross Country Each Place Third at Stevenson Invitational

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams both finished in third place in their respective races at the Stevenson University Invitational on Friday evening in Stevenson, Md.

The women ran a 6K race, placing third with 78 points, behind Messiah (24) and Stevenson (47), and ahead of Marymount (91), Harford CC (133), and Notre Dame (174).

UMW's top finisher was freshman Ashley Applegate, who placed 12th overall at 25:50. Freshman Lindsay Tyler finished 18th at 26:30, and was followed by freshman Lea Saling in 19th at 26:41, freshman Carly Hughes in 20th at 26:41, and freshman Angelica Gaughran in 21st at 26:42.

For the men, UMW placed third with 92 points, behind Messiah (18 points) and Stevenson (39), and ahead of Hood (116), Harford CC (131), and Hagerstown CC (165).

Senior Kevin Jones led UMW with an 18th place finish at 28:05, with sophomore Austin Jones taking 26th at 28:38, freshman Jake Phillips in 27th at 28:39, and freshman Dillon Schweers in 28th at 28:47. Freshman Matthew Bapties placed 35th at 29:44.

Both teams will be back in action on September 23 at Shenandoah University at 10:00 a.m.
