UMW Men's Cross Country Picked Fourth in CAC Preseason Poll

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Christopher Newport was the unanimous choice to win its third straight title in the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Preseason Poll. The Captains earned nine first-place votes and 81 points to land atop the voting among the conference head coaches. 

York and Salisbury tied for second place with 69 points apiece, with York securing the other remaining first-place vote. Mary Washington (56 points) and Frostburg State (50 points) rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively. 

Southern Virginia took sixth in the voting with 37 points, followed by St. Mary's (32 points), Wesley (25 points), Marymount (18 points), and Penn State Harrisburg (13 points). 

The 2017 season begins on Friday, Sept. 1. The CAC Championships will be hosted by Christopher Newport at Lee Hall Mansion in Newport News, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 28, with regionals and nationals set for early November.
