UMW Women's Cross Country Places Third at CAC Championships; Men Finish Fourth

The University of Mary Washington women's cross country team finished in third place at the 2015 Capital Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by St. Mary's College on Saturday. The men's team followed with a fourth place finish in the conference championship meet.

The Eagle women finished with 89 points, behind first place Christopher Newport (25) and second place York (48), and ahead of Salisbury, Marymount, Southern Virginia, Wesley, St. Mary's, and Frostburg State.

The Eagles were led by senior Claudia Autore, who finished in 10th place at 23:38.4. She was followed by freshman Emily Knerr, who took 13th place at 23:47; senior Colleen Boyle was 21st at 24:00 and freshman Jillian Weisbeck was 22nd at 24:03.

Senior Amanda Patterson finished 24th at 24:07, followed by freshman Brianna Dolecki in 28th place at 24:22. Senior Lauren Braney took 31st at 24:27.

On the men's side, the Eagles finished in fourth place with 83 points, behind Christopher Newport (26), York (45), and Salisbury (76), and ahead of Marymount, St. Mary's, Frostburg State, Wesley, Southern Virginia, and Penn State Harrisburg.

The Eagles were led by All-CAC runners Ben Sorenson, who finished in ninth place at 25:54, and Ian Granger, who took 10th at 25:56. Sophomore Kevin Jones took 18th at 26:17, with J.P. Burklow taking 23rd at 26:31, and Chris Anderson took 30th at 26:40.

Mary Washington will be back in action in two weeks when they compete at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship in Winchester, Va. at 11:00 a.m.
