UMW Men's, Women's Cross Country Teams Place Second at South/Southeast Regional Preview Meet

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams both finished in second place at the South/Southeast Regional Preview Meet at Kernstown Battleground State Park in Winchester, Va. The women missed first place by just three points behind Washington and Lee University in the nine-team event, while the men finished 19 points behind Lynchburg among 10 schools.

Leading the way for the Eagles was senior Clauidia Autore, who finished seventh with a time of 23:48, and was followed closely by senior Samantha Park in eighth place at 23:57, senior Colleen Boyle in ninth at 24:03, freshman Emily Knerr in 11th at 24:20, and senior Amanda Patterson in 12th at 24:25. Freshman Brianna Dolecki was 14th at 24:29, and freshman Jillian Weisbeck was 15th at 24:32.

The men saw junior Ben Sorenson finish third overall at 26:36 over the 8K course, followed by senior Ian Granger in 10th at 27:12. Sophomore Kevin Jones placed 12th at 27:15, followed by senior Kevin Speray in 15th place at 27:24. Freshman Calhoun Stirling was 17th at 27:39, with junior Kevin McCarthy taking 19th at 27:52 and freshman Sean Miller finishing 22nd at 27:57.

Both teams will be back in action on October 31 at the CAC Championships at St. Mary's College at 10:00 a.m.
