The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams both finished in second place among non-Division I schools at the James Madison University Invitational on Saturday morning.
The men finished second in its division with 32 points, nine behind first place Washington & Lee University. Junior Ben Sorenson finished third with a time of 26:43, followed by Ian Granger in fifth at 27:27, Kevin Jones in seventh at 27:35, and Calhoun Stirling in eighth at 27:51. Chris Anderson rounded out the Eagles' top five in ninth place at 28:03.
The Eagle women finished second in the non-Division I category, with 40 points, 15 behind first place Washington & Lee. Senior Lauren Braney finished fourth overall at 21:19, followed by Emily Knerr in sixth place at 21:10, Jillian Weisbeck in ninth at 21:50, Claudia Autore in 10th at 21:52, Colleen Boyle in 11th at 21:52, and Brianna Dolecki in 12th at 21:55. UMW saw runners finish ninth-16th in the race.
Both teams will be back in action next Saturday when they visit the St. Mary's College Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
