UMW Women's Cross Country Places Second at CAC Championships; Men Take Fourth

Sophomore Teagan Young finished first overall by a margin of 22 seconds, as the University o0f Mary Washington women's cross country team finished in second place at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at Four Winds Golf Club. The Eagle men, led by fourth-place finisher Ben Sorensen, finished fourth in the men's 8K.

Young took gold medalist honors with a time of 21:20, 22 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Senior Lauren Braney finished in sixth place at 22:15, and sophomore Victoria Parent took 11th at 22:47. Freshman Rachel Lewis took 13th overall at 22:54, followed by senior Tara Landy in 14th place at 23:03. Trinity Smyth was 17th at 23:15, and Sam Park was 27th at 23:57.

For the men, sophomore Ben Sorensen finished fourth overall at 25:16, followed by Nick Eghtessad in 17th at 25:40, Julian Menk in 22nd at 25:50, and Jamie Van Emmerik in 29th at 26:02. Chris Anderson was 36th at 26:14, and James King was 37th at 26:16.

Christopher Newport won the women's event with 33 points, followed by UMW with 45 and York with 50. Salisbury had 147, followed by Frostburg with 153, Wesley with 195, St. Mary's with 208, Marymount with 209, Southern Virginia with 233, and Penn State Harrisburg with 294.

The men saw Salisbury take first at 42 points, followed by CNU with 50, York with 55, UMW with 99, St. Mary's with 168, Marymount with 176, Southern Virginia with 178, Frostburg with 219, Penn State Harrisburg with 266, and Wesley with 303.
