Young Leads UMW Women's XC to Fifth Place Finish at Salisbury's Don Cathcart Invite; Men Place 10th

Sophomore Teagan Young finished in first place overall in leading the University of Mary Washington women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Salisbury University Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday. The Eagle men placed in 10th place overall.

Young took first place honors with a time of 22:21, six seconds ahead of the second place finisher from Slippery Rock. Victoria Parent finished 17th overall at 22:56, followed by Rachel Lewis in 23rd place at 23:15, Claudia Autore in 36th place at 23:37, and Sam Park in 53rd place at 24:10.

On the men's side, Ben Sorensen finished in 33rd overall at 26:27, followed by Jamie VanEmmerik in 52nd place at 27:02, James King in 72nd place at 27:39, Chris Markham in 84th place at 27:56, and Kevin Speray in 85th place at 27:57.

The Eagles held out several runners on each side due to injury. Both teams will return to action next Saturday at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. at 10:00 a.m.
