UMW's Eghtessad, Menk Named to All-CAC Men's Cross Country Team

YORK, Pa. - York College senior All-American Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) became just the second runner in CAC men’s cross country history to win the conference championship race three-straight years and was named the CAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year for the second-straight season.

Christopher Newport freshman John LaPointe (Arlington, Va./Bishop O’Connell) was named the 2013 CAC Rookie of the Year while first-year York coach Steven LoBianco was selected by his peers as the 2013 CAC Coach of the Year. It’s the third-straight year the YCP leader was named the Coach of the Year after former coach Erick Camodeca was honored the past two seasons.

Hartung led six York runners onto the 2013 All-CAC squad, earning first-team recognition for the fourth-straight season. The Spartan standout placed fifth in the conference championship as a freshman, then won the individual crown each of the past three seasons.

The only Spartan to ever win the CAC individual crown, Hartung is the fifth two-time CAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year and joins former Goucher runner Jeff Olenick as the only three-time CAC individual champion.

Joining Hartung on the 2013 All-CAC first team were senior Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton), juniors Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and sophomore Connor Simpson (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant). Simpson was a second-team all-star in 2012.

Second-team honors also went to junior Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) and freshman Matt Hayes (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara), giving the three-time CAC Champion Spartans a conference-best six all-conference runners.

LaPointe, the first Christopher Newport runner to be named CAC Rookie of the Year, was one of four Captains named to the 2013 All-CAC squad.

Junior Samuel Martin (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery), who finished second in the championship race and led CNU to second place in the team standings, earned first-team All-CAC recognition while senior Aaron Zook (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) and freshman Billy Rabil (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) joined LaPointe on the second team.

Mary Washington and Frostburg State combined for the other three first-team All-CAC nods. UMW junior Julian Menk (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) and sophomore Nick Eghtessad (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) finished third and fourth, respectively, while FSU senior Patrick Mead (Woodbine, Md./Century) placed fifth. Menk was a second-team all-star the past two years while Mead earned second-team honors in 2012.

Three Salisbury runners joined three from CNU and two from York on the second-team All-CAC squad. Junior Jeremy Skarda (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and sophomore Thomas Burke (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Twp.) were repeat honorees from 2012 while Sea Gull senior Nathan Austin (Rockville, Md./Rockville) earned all-conference honors for the first time in his career.
