UMW Cross Country Teams Both Place Sixth at NCAA Regionals; Five Gain All-Region Status

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams, ranked eighth and ninth in the region, respectively, both finished in sixth place at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday.

The Eagle men saw three runners gain all-region honors, as senior Scott Plunkett finished 15th overall with a time of 26:38, junior Jeff Branson took 27th place at 26:57, and junior Corey lyons finished 34th at 27:00. Julian Menk finished 50th at 27:11, and Nick Eghtessad placed 53rd at 27:11 to round out the Eagles' top five.

For the women, sophomore Tara Landy gained all-region status by finishing 19th overall at 23:32. She was joined on the all-region squad by junior Liz Green, who finished 27th at 23:51. Trinity Smyth finished 58th for UMW at 24:42, followed by Colleen Boyle at 60th place at 24:45, and Caroline Cerand in 85th place at 25:23. UMW had two freshmen, two sophomores, and a junior in its top five.
