UMW Cross Country Sweeps all Four Races at McDaniel Green Terror Challenge

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams swept all four races at the McDaniel College Green Terror Invitational on Saturday in Westminster, Md.

In the men's 5K, UMW finished first with 17 points. Sophomore Scott Plunkett (Annandale, Va., Annandale) finished second overall at 16:38, followed by Kyle Anderson (New Milford, Conn., New Milford) in fourth place at 16:44 and Chris Marino (Portland, Conn., Portland) in fifth place at 16:51. Sean Healy (Berryville, Va., Clarke County) was UMW's fourth finisher in 16th place at 17:20.

The Eagle men were first in the 3K race, with Marino taking first overall at 9:43, Anderson taking third at 9:49, and Plunkett taking fourth at 9:52. Jeff Branson (Lancaster, Pa., Lampeter-Strasburg) was UMW's fourth finisher at 10:09 in 12th place.

For the Eagle women, UMW took first in the 5K race with 34 points. Elizabeth Green (Viera, Fla., Viera) took fourth overall at 20:39, followed by Sarah Dawes (Chesapeake Beach, Md., Huntingtown) in ninth at 21:09, Kristy Witek (Fairfax, Va., Chantilly) in 11th at 21:20, and Madelyn Crowell (Danville, Va., Chatham) in 13th at 21:25.

UMW's women won the 3K race as Green took fourth overall at 11:55, Witek was fifth at 12:11, Michaela Sands (Burke, Va., Lake Braddock) was eighth at 12:28, and Crowell took ninth at 12:29.

The Eagles will compete in two weeks at the Greensboro College Invitataional.
