UMW Cross Country Competes at Carnegie Mellon Invite
PITTSBURGH, PA - The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational on Saturday, with the men taking third place and the women finishing in sixth place.

For the Eagle men, senior Frank DeVar (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) finished second overall with a time of 25:54, Jason Driscoll (Haymarket, Va., Battlefield) took 14th at 26:43, and Jake Pattyson (Winchester, Va., James Wood) was 18th with a time of 26:52. Brian Fulton (Pawling, N.Y., Pawling) finished 21st at 26:58, and Scott Plunkett (Annandale, Va., Annandale) was the Eagles' fifth finisher, in 47th place with a time of 27:58.

In the women's 5K race, Kristy Witek (Fairfax, Va., Chantilly) finished in 10th place at 19:55, followed closely by Sara Dawes (Chesapeake Beach, Md., Huntingtown) in 12th place at 20:07. Mara Cate (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac) finished 25th with a time of 20:49, Michaela Sands (Burke, Va., Lake Braddock) was 29th with a time of 20:58, and Madelyn Crowell (Danville, Va., Chatham) rounded out the Eagles' top five with a time of 21:48.

The Eagles will be off next weekend before competing in two weeks in the Elizabethtown College Invitational.
