UMW Men's, Women's Cross Country Teams Open Season with 1st Place Finishes at W&L
The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2009 season with a pair of first place finishes at the Washington & Lee University Invitational on Saturday.

The men saw the Eagles place first with 28 points, with W&L taking second at 31 points, and Catholic University placing third among eight scored teams with 95 points. Kyle Anderson finished second overall for the Eagles with a time of 28:59, with senior Jason Driscoll taking third place at 29:09. Stephen Harrison took fifth place with a time of 29:23, with Scott Plunkett placing sixth at 29:24. Chris Marino finished in 12th place at 29:49, and Sean Healy placed 13th at 29:59.

The Eagle women won with 35 points, with Washington & Lee placing second with 39, and Catholic third at 58 among seven scored teams. Kristy Witek finished first overall with a time of 20:37 on the 5K course, with Sarah Dawes taking third at 20:49. Michaela Sands finished seventh at 21:41, and Mara Cate took 10th place at 21:54. Nina Pfeiffer finished 14th at 22:24, Dawn Rainbolt placed 17th at 22:56, and Madalyn Crowell took 19th at 23:08.

The Eagles will next compete in the Dickinson College Invitational next Saturday.
