2007 University of Mary Washington Men's Cross Country Season in Review

The University of Mary Washington men's cross country team again competed as one of the top teams in the South region in 2007, finishing second in the CAC Championship and fifth among 21 schools at the NCAA Regional Championship. Sophomore Frank DeVar advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championship.
 
The Eagles opened the season by winning the Virginia Wesleyan College Invitational, with DeVar finishing first, Matt Cash finishing NCAA Championship competitor second, and Jason Driscoll placing third. The Eagles then finished fifth among 23 schools at New York University, and 14th against Division I, II, and III competition at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
 
UMW turned heads with an impressive fourth place finish among 27 schools at Dickinson, and then tested the NCAA Regional race course at the William & Mary Invitational the following week. The Eagles prepared for the home stretch by taking third of 19 teams at Elizabethtown, and then took second place at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships. DeVar finished second overall, with Cash placing fourth, Jake Pattyson eighth, Driscoll ninth, James Rock 10th, Matt Downs 13th, and J.T. Newcomb 14th. All gained all-conference honors.
 
 
At the NCAA regionals in Williamsburg, Va., DeVar finished in 11th place to lead the Eagles to a fifth place team finish, with Cash also earning all-region honors. DeVar competed at the NCAA Championships in Northfield, Minn., marking the second straight year the Eagles have been represented at the national race. Driscoll capped
the year by gaining Academic All-America honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
