2004 University of Mary Washington Women's Cross Country Season in Review

The dominance that Mary Washington has developed over the years continued to flourish in 2004, as the Eagles placed in the top three at four of the seven races in which they competed, including the George Washington University Invitational, the Mason-Dixon meet, the CAC Championships, and the NCAA Regional. Despite losing several of their top runners during the course of the season to injury, UMW was able to finish second at the conference championship, with freshman Christy Falcone dramatically coming from behind just before the finish line to claim overall individual honors, and the CAC Runner of the Year award.

Julia Rothlisberger carried over the great success she has had on the track to cross country, and Ann Tripp progressed into a very solid runner, with top ten finishes in two of the final races of the year. Senior Erin Connelly was named all-region for the fourth straight year, finishing tenth at the Southeast regional competition. Joanna
Long also proved to be a key addition to the team, finishing ninth at the CAC Championship and gaining all-conference honors. With a healthy season in 2005, UMW will look to regain its grip on the Capital Athletic Championship, and again challenge for a birth at the National Championships.
