2002 Mary Washington College Women's Cross Country Season in Review

A very talented group again filled the Eagle women's cross country roster in 2002, led by two-time CAC runner of the year and all-region runner Erin Connolly, who finished either first or second in five of the eight races she competed in. Connolly won both the Mason-Dixon and Capital Athletic Conference Championship races, finished second at the NCAA Regionals in Fredericksburg, and advanced to the NCAA National Championship for the second straight year. Her efforts bolstered
a strong team showing, as MWC finished either first or second in five races, and wrapped up its eleventh CAC title in twelve years.

The Eagles' depth was another key to their success, as seven runners (Connolly, Whitney Gray, Rachel Haley, Macy Zwanzig, Stephanie Churchill, Rachel Ungerer, and
Rebecca Griffith) ran their way to all-conference honors, placing in the top twelve at the conference meet. Connolly, Gray, and Zwanzig all earned all-region honors as well. In addition to their success on the course, the Eagles also proved to be very strong academically, with a 3.07 team GPA. Macy Zwanzig earned Academic All-American recognition as well.
