Behind medalist Murray Chesno, MWC's men also placed five in the top seven to capture a second straight CAC championship. Soper was named CAC Coach of the Year for both men and women. MWC garnered third-place honors at the very competitive Mason-Dixon Conference Championships, and fifth at NCAA Regionals, behind an 11th-place finish by Jon Gates.
The graduation bug seems to hit the Eagles every year, yet this contingent continues to put the sting into conference and regional opponents. All-CAC standouts Murray Chesno and Chris Koehler have departed, but Stan Soper believes that the '93 Eagles should be strong contenders for a third straight CAC title and possibly a second NCAA Regional crown in four years. "How well our freshmen adapt to the collegiate program may ultimately determine our success," said Soper.
MWC welcomes back a strong nucleus of veterans, led by sophomore Jon Gates (Winchester, VA), who was an All-Region and All-CAC performer. Joining Gates in the lead pack should be seniors Craig Moyer (Lansdale, PA),Nick Duncan (Keswick,VA)and sophomore Peter Steinberg (Alexandria, VA); all three were All-CAC runners in '92. Newcomers to watch include track standout Mike Britton (So./Woodbridge, VA) and freshmen Brent Poythress (Salem, VA) and Noel Adams (Freehold, NY).
