The 21st ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team jumped out to an early lead in the first, overcame a deficit in the second with a big rally, and cruised in the third for a 3-0 victory over UC Santa Cruz on Friday afternoon in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference tournament semifinals in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles won by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-12, and improve to 28-3 on the season.

After capturing the first game, the Eagles found themselves trailing, 14-9, in the second. After taking six of the next seven points to tie the score at 15, UMW again found themselves behind, at 17-15 before jumping ahead, 23-20. The Banana Slugs then knotted the score at 23-23, before a kill from senior Jordan Lyons and a ball handling error from Santa Cruz ended the game, giving UMW a big momentum turn. In the third, the Eagles were efficient to the point of 14 kills against just two errors in 27 attempts (.444).
