#22 UMW Volleyball Sweeps Averett, Falls to #5 Emory in Five on Saturday

The 22nd ranked University of Mary Washington volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday in Danville, Va., falling in five games to #5 Emory before sweeping Averett University. The Eagles move to 22-3 on the season.

In the opener against Emory, UMW claimed a hard-fought win in game one, 27-25, before falling in the second and third, 25-21 and 25-17. UMW won the fourth, 25-19, before Emory won the fifth, 15-12.

Senior Jordan Lyons led the Eagle attack with 18 kills against four errors in 48 attempts, and also added 12 digs and four block assists. Senior Bryanna Miller posted 14 kills and 17 digs, and senior Caitlyn Burch added 11 kills. Junior Lauren Foley directed the offense with 27 assists, while junior Brenna Campbell added 22 to go with 12 digs. Emma Hadley added nine kills and four block assists as well.

The Eagles claimed the nightcap, 25-15, 25-21, 25-15. Miller led the balanced attack with eight kills and five digs, while Chloe Crosen added seven kills against just one error. Lyons added six kills and 17 digs, while Burch and Hadley each scored five kills. Foley led the way with 17 assists, and Hannah Livermon added 14 digs.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday night when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 7:00 p.m.
